NAME: Roshni Sheth FILM: Triumph of the Will 1. What is the goal of the film? What do you believe are the director’s motives and what is the message he/she is sending? When the Nazi party came into power, Germany was experiencing political instability, so Hitler commissioned Leni Riefenstahl to create a film to rally support for the Nazi Party in hopes for a better future for Germany. Her message is that this Reich will persevere and foster unity throughout Germany. 2. What ethical argument may refute the message? Why? This film may be unethical because it displays the new government as a government of the workers’ party. The speeches give the impression that all socialists will have equal opportunities as “one people” and that their voices will be heard. By using words like “we” and “ours,” the film gives a relatively false sense of unity, considering what the Nazi party does to “ethnically cleanse” Germany in later years. 3. Briefly describe the plot of the film.
