NAME: Roshni Sheth FILM: Why We Fight: Prelude to War and Why We Fight Final Assignment 1. What is the goal of the film? What do you believe are the director’s motives and what is the message he/she is sending? The goal of the film Why We Fight: Prelude to War is to show the audience that the enemies (Axis powers) must be brought down before they take over the entire world. The film shows a scene where Germany, Italy, and Japan each take over different regions of the world slowly, but surely. The director is trying to foster more support by the American people for the war. The goal of the film Why We Fight is quite different. This film discusses the fact that there are governmental lies behind every war and the dangers of the military industrial complex that America has developed since the Eisenhower era. 2. What ethical argument may refute the message? Why? For the film Why We Fight: Prelude to War , an ethical argument that may refute the message is that the film is using fear tactics to convince the audience to support the war. The American people are probably not receiving all of the information regarding the war in the film. There are not many reasons given against the war, besides the obvious loss of life. This film could be used as proof of the message of the second film because the American government is trying to manipulate the American people to support the war cause. For the film Why We Fight , an ethical argument that may refute the message is that it is unfair to say that the American government will lie to the American people about foreign affairs and war just because it has in the past. Even if it seems that the government has lied to stimulate support for the war in Iraq, the film almost it seems like nothing that the American government tells its people is true.
