A magnetic stir bar was added to the flask, and the flask was left to mix on a stir plate at room temperature for about 3-4 minutes. Then, 0.3 mL benzaldehyde was added to the flask. The flask was put on the stir plate and left to stir for 30 minutes. An ice bath was used to cool a beaker of water. The resulting yellow solid was filtered by suction filtration. The cold water was used to rinse the solid. The solid was tested for neutralization with pH paper. This was done by lifting the filter and touching the pH paper to the falling drops of solution. The pH paper was not initially orange as it should have been, so the solid was washed with more cold water. Once the pH paper became orange, the solid was removed from the filter for storage.
