Introduction: Plants exhibit growth increasing root length, vertical height, and girth size in the case of woody plants. Plants grow throughout their lives, due to a process called indeterminate growth. This process can occur because of meristems, where embryonic tissue can be found. At the tip of the shoot of the plant, the apical meristem can be found and is where vertical growth occurs. Plant hormones can control this growth by affecting cell division, elongation and differentiation. Hormones are produced in small amounts but are extremely potent. The way that plant hormones affect a plant depends of the age of the plant, the amount of hormone produced, and the ratio of the hormone to other hormones present. More often than not, hormones do not take any affect individually. The presence of other hormones allow for results (Campbell, 2008). Currently, there are six major classes of plant hormones: auxin, cytokinins, brassinosteroids, abscisic acid, ethylene, and gibberellins. The main function of auxin is cell elongation in the coleoptiles. Auxin allows plants to grow toward light and is important in the development of young shoots. Auxin is also important in lateral and adventitious root formation. Cytokinins promote lateral growth and regulate cell division near the apical meristems. Brassinosteroids promote cell division in the shoot and retard leaf abscission. Abscisic acid
