Unformatted text preview: Journal 1: Auro-Biography Lucignani 1 Storhoff Modern Popular Music September 4, 2009 While growing up, I was constantly surrounded by various musical influences; I vividly remember sitting in the car with my Dad, listening to old Dixieland Brass Bands or the seductive tenor sounds of John Coltrane. His liking for this older brand of music encouraged my appreci- ation and self-motivation to learn the art myself. I started out by studying classical piano for around six years, enjoying the traditional organized music. Then, one night, I listened to a jazz saxophonist, and in the sixth grade when I first picked up the alto saxophone, little did I realize what an enormous and perpetual experience music would become for me. If I had to choose a theme that is intrinsic to my life it would be organized spontan- eouity. I have always lived by a busy schedule but have never let the chance to be spontaneous down.
