In order to increase the population, a captive breeding program has been established in zoos, using J. wehrae collected from different cities. As part of this program, karyotype analysis was used to examine the chromosomes from different strains. Individuals collected from Cleveland contain an abnormal second chromosome, as shown below. New York City (normal) Cleveland (abnormal) a. What type of chromosome abnormality is present in Cleveland strains? b. You cross a New York City animal with a Cleveland animal to produce a hybrid. Show synapsed chromosomes in meiosis I of the hybrid. c. Draw the gametic chromosomes produced by a single crossover taking place between D and E. Indicate which, if any, of the gametes are likely to cause lethality if used in fertilization. Briefly (1 or 2 words) justify your answers. Include letters and centromere. Draw the gametic chromosomes produced by two- stranded double cross –over, where one was between D and E, and the second was between F and the centromere.
