Claire Livingston 8-31-18 Per. 5 Summer Reading: Macbeth One of Shakespeare's most famous plays, Macbeth, was written in the 1600’s, and follows the tale of a man named Macbeth, who takes new titles throughout the relatively short play and causes extreme turmoil in the rulership of Scotland. In the first scene, he is merely a Thain (the equivalent of a lord) but soon after the idea is planted in his head by three witches, and aided by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, and takes his title. From there, Macbeth spirals into insanity, his rule becoming shakier with each murder he commits. The play ends with Macbeth being murdered by Macduff, a more minor character whose main role was a threat to Macbeth and his rule. The other most minor but still notable character is named Banquo. Banquo was the close and trusting friend of Macbeth, whose sons the witches declare to be the future kings of Scotland, which throws Macbeth into suspicion. Macbeth kills Banquo after he becomes king. Lady Macbeth, a more important character, was the instigator of Macbeth’s ambition, but is
