9/23/2005 Professor Ahire Flow Time: Theoretical vs. Actual Flow Unit: Entity that flows through a business process (customer, order, call, etc.) Average Actual Flow Time: Average of actual times that flow units spend in the system (from entry to exit). Average Actual Flow Time = Average Actual Processing Time + Average Actual Wait Time. Theoretical Flow Time: Time in system for a flow unit if it does not experience any wait before any process steps. This is the Total Work Content across the longest path of the process steps network . 22
