Exam 1 Review Sheet S341 Spring 2011 You are responsible for all of the material that we covered in lecture or were assigned to read in the text. All of the homework questions, game questions and review questions are fair game. This list summarizes material to be covered for the exam. It should not be viewed as a comprehensive list of the material, or a replacement for your notes, just a guide for the major topics. Material covered through the end of the lecture on Jan. 31 (Monday lecture) will be covered. Topic List Bonding: Be prepared to draw appropriate structures of compounds that reflect a good understanding of valency, resonance and octet rules. You should be able to use your knowledge of bonding types (nonpolar, polar, ionic) as necessary for understanding structural properties. Structures: Understand the various types of isomerism. Be prepared to render structures in various forms and explain how they are related. Use of line drawings and perspective drawings will be expected. Nomenclature:
