SUR 4403 CADASTRAL PRINCIPLES Courthouse Research Project Objective: To abstract title information on ownership, location, size, easements, and encumbrances for a particular parcel of land in Alachua County. Procedure: Your client, Bobby Bigbux, wishes to buy a piece of property in Alachua County and he has asked you to check on the title of this parcel of land. He has communicated with Mr. Joe Durando, one of the current owners of the property who apparently has owned the land since 1989. The Clerk of Courts is the County recording officer charged with keeping the public records on property transfers and other property transactions. Copies of recorded deeds are contained in the OFFICIAL RECORD BOOKS (O.R. Book) at a certain page number. Documents are therefore identifiable by their OR Book and Page Number such as OR 123/456. The OR Books are maintained in microfiche files, but are also accessible on line. Indexes to these documents are also available on-line (Official Records Index Books).
