TLC Procedure Notes (these notes are in reference to the lab text) In the reactions section of your notebook, write the structures for the five analgesics used. You will be assaying for: Plate #1: acetaminophen, aspirin, caffeine, ibuprofen, and salicylamide as pure compounds and a reference mixture containing four of the pure compounds (ibuprofen is omitted). These compounds are already prepared in dropper bottles for dispensing. Plate #2 will contain 3 over-the-counter analgesics (unknowns), and the reference mixture. A spatula tip of each unknown will need to be dissolved in a few drops of MeCl 2 /ethanol (50/50). This solvent mixture is already prepared and stored in dropper bottles for dispensing. The first plate will be used to compare the reference mixture with the individual pure compounds. The second plate will be used to compare the reference mixture with the unknown compounds.
