1 Experiment 3 Heat vs Temperature OBJECTIVE Expt 3 Heat .wpd Selected physical and chemical changes will be measured for the changes in temperature and heat. DISCUSSION Thermodynamics is the field of study which deals with the relationships between energy, heat, with physical and chemical changes. This is done by dividing the system from the surrounding; together they form the universe. Energy flowing into the system is called positive energy ( endothermic ); the system has gained energy. Energy flowing out of the system is called negative energy ( exothermic ); system has lost energy. The energy lost by the system is gained by the surroundings, and the energy gained by the system is lost by the surroundings. If a system is unable to exchange energy with the surroundings it is called an isolated system. The more isolated a system is the easier it is to study. There are many aspects of energy which we could study. We are going to focus on heat and changes in heat for a system. To quantify
