Jordan Kolstad Chew on This #2 Much of the second section of Chew on This is devoted to explaining why obesity is such a huge problem in our country and the health risks associated with being overweight. The book describes an obese kid named Sam and the school he goes to, Buffalo Grove High School. The location of the school, restaurants in the area, and the sedentary lifestyle in which so many American live, all goes into a culture that promotes obesity. Across the street from Sam’s high school was a McDonald’s. Each day, dozens of students would run across the street for Big Mac’s, milkshakes, and fries for lunch. In countless communities this same situation is commonplace as the fast food industry continues to grow. And this is just one of the problems as what you eat is added to how much you eat, how much you exercise, and your genetics. I do not think that most American’s understand this fact and therefore are not prepared to always make the best decisions. I believe that a key to combating obesity is simply the education of our kids. Obviously
