Giving Birth Control to Teenagers Giving Birth Control to Teenagers Barbara Williams Composition 1 Lisa Nikolidakis January 9, 2010 Many parents turn their shoulder when it comes to discussing sex and protection with their teenage children. Is it embarrassment or shame? Is it religion? Every teen deserves a parent who will help them understand the importance of using birth control if they are not going to abstain from sex.

Providing our teenagers birth control today is a controversial issue. There are many states that have a high rate of religious occupants. The birth rate is higher in highly religious states. Does religion affect a family’s willingness to provide their teen with birth control? “ The relationship could be due to the fact that communities with such religious beliefs (a literal interpretation of the Bible, for instance) may frown upon contraception , r esearchers say. If that same culture isn't successfully discouraging teen sex ; the p regnancy and birth rates rise.” (Jeanna Bryner, 9/16/2009) The decision to provide a teenager with birth control is made my various types of agencies. In some states school districts are providing contraception to teens upon request. They are
