“Parenting: Two Side to Every Coin” Parenting practices aren’t what they used to be. Years ago when I was a teenager my mother was a stay at home mom. My father was a business man. I was expected to help my mom with chores around the house such as cleaning, cooking, laundry etc. We didn’t use the dryer, we used the clothes line. We didn’t eat in separate places; we ate together at the dinner table as a family. I wasn’t allowed to hang out or go out unless my mom or dad was with me. I was never allowed to take the phone in to another room to talk to a friend. If what I said could not be heard by whoever was in the area, then it shouldn’t have been said. I had a bedtime and that time was strictly enforced. I was to be in bed and going to sleep by 9pm this bed time was followed even when I got into high school. On the weekends I was in bed by 11pm sooner if told to do so. Even now, being 38 yrs old, when I visit my parents my dad will tell me, “Barbie, go to bed!” I laugh but I still listen and still show the respect. Disrespect was not tolerated. It was not tolerated in the presence of an adult whether it was
