HMD 103 10/27/08 “Hotel Human Resources Practices” Take Home Exam 3 1) In my personal experiences as being a leader or a supervisor I’ve noticed that I interact with my fellow employees and constituents as equals. I prefer managers who are more supportive and understanding with their employees rather than being dominant and demanding. For example, just two weeks ago I asked my manager if I could talk to him about my schedule. He was more than willing to ask me how things were going and anything he could do to help. I told him that I was pretty stressed out with school and working forty hours a week. So being a supportive manager that he is the next week he reduced my hours by half, which in return helped me out so much. 2) In regards to employees and how they should be trained, I think its best to emphasize more on employee facilitation skills than the technical skills. I’m all about making the best of developing new employees and feel that they should learn the greatest skills that are easier to adapt to, worry less about details. Don’t get me wrong a manager should definitely care about the small technical things, but with aspects to training keep it simple and just encourage more facilitation practices. 3)
