Socrates being a great philosopher and teacher to all of his friends in Athens had many great discussions including the one he had with Ethypthro. In “Ethypthro”, Socrates tries to teach his friend, Ethypthro, to understand that there are many questions that he can’t answer, and that there is always much to learn. The story starts with Ethypthro and Socrates speaking of the charges that have been brought against Socrates by Meletus, and the charge Ethypthro has brought against his father. Ethypthro thinks he knows what the Gods think and what is right and wrong, Socrates is not so sure of that. Socrates speaking of the murder charges that Ethypthro had brought against his father said, “… Is your knowledge of religion and things pious and impious so very exact that, supposing the circumstances to be as you state them, you are not afraid lest you to be doing and impious thing in bringing an action against your father?”(12) (Plato, 1988) By saying this Socrates is challenging Ethypthro’s knowledge of the Gods and the
