-1 Samantha Angel English 102 Byrd 1/12/11 Questions for exploratory paper 1. Being able to stop Illegal whaling in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary is very important to the whale populations of the world. 2. Commercial whaling has been illegal since the 1980s. Even with the regulations Japan still kills over nine hundred whales each year, with in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. Groups like Green Peace and Sea Sheppard have been trying to stop this whaling since the mid 1980’s. The Japanese say they kill the whales for scientific research but then go sell the whale meat in their markets. There is only so much you can do to prevent a large animal from getting killed the open ocean, as portrayed in ‘Whale Wars’. Green Peace and Sea Sheppard believe that these animals should be protected against the barbarian like killings. Japan only states that they use the information for research.

The killing should especially not be in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary where the whales are meant to be protected. Japan- They feel it is their right to kill the whales for research. Part of the law passed in the mid 1980s says that whales used for research must have all parts used. International Fund For Animal Welfare Whale Division- They believe that Illegal whaling should stop and Japan should be punished 4.I believe that the whales should be protected in their sanctuary and every where else. All the whales that are being hunted are either endangered or close to being endangered animal. These are very beautiful and smart creatures....
