Think GloballyEducation ReformSir Robinson in his TED Talk examines the culture of American education and outlines three basic principles that it contradicts. These three principles are those that “make human life thrive.” (Robinson, 2013). Sir Robinson makes mockery of the concept of ‘No child left behind’ because this approach is definitely leaving millions of children behind. He states that some parts of America there is 60% and 70% Native American community 80% of dropout rates respectively. He further points out that there are more kids in school who are not going to drop out but will be disengaged or disinterred in learning, and he blames this reason on wrong direction on educational spending. From this analysis, the “No child left behind” concept is an actual problem in society that needs to be addressed. This is a social problem because although it was created to help children and their education, it is not producing those actual results it was conceived for. Furthermore, it is costing society much more because of the problems is has created. There is a higher rate of school drop outs which is one thing. On the other hand there are those children that are in school who do not drop out but are disengaged from the whole educational process. This is significant tome because I come from a part of the world (Africa) where education although a priority, not every child has the opportunity to attend school. As a correctional officer with the State of Maryland, I come across kid’s everyday that dropped out of school, those who actually went through school but who were disengaged for one reason or another. The point of view presented in the video is about educational reform that is needed across the United States which will bring intended results. The fact that people are different and diverse andthe ‘No child left behind” is based on conformity and not diversity. It is worth noting here that children are natural learners and just need a spark that will help their curiosity. That is why great teachers not only use teaching as a delivery system but what they also do is “mentor, stimulates, provokes, engages and in the end education is about learning.” The fact is that creativity which ispart and parcel of the human person just need ignition which is the role education plays.
