Teaching Word StressI would start by explaining to the students that today’s lesson is about how when a word changes, thestress pattern of the word will also change. I will demonstrate this by writing the phonetics next toeach of the words, such as ed/u/cateand ed/u/ca/tion and circle the primary stress. After the studentsunderstand the lesson and its purpose. I will then begin using the Model, Highlight, Model, Drill (MHMD)method to work on them. Depending to their level, I will plan a few sentence containing the word: “Iam going to make diner.”First, I would say this sentence naturally. Then I would say it slowly, stressing the final sounds, then Iwould say the sentence a second time beforeI motion for students to repeat the sentence all together. After a few repetitions, I call on individual students to repeat it as well to validate comprehension andright pronunciation. As another possible drill I could ask a student to come up to the board and circle the part of the word
