Daniel Schiller POS 201 T TH Montoya 09/12/06 Assignment #1 The First Question I will attempt to answer is, “What is Power?” Power defined by Grigsby is, “an ability to influence an event or outcome that allows the agent to achieve an objective and or to influence another agent to act in a manner in which the second agent, on its own, would not choose to act.” (Grigsby 2005) The definition is pretty cut and dry; power defined as a controlling apparatus that one uses to manipulate another in to submitting to a specific will. Grigsby goes on to give an example of how an interest group could gain power by achieving its objective by meeting its aims or making a political element bend to its will. Even though the agent may or may not be physical, the fact that the interest group overcame the obstacle shows that it has the power to reach its goals. All in all, power is anything that one can hold over something else as a controlling apparatus. Even a mountain climber could state that he over powered the
