Click on the Create a Family History button to complete the medical family tree by entering your information into the boxes. After creating your medical family tree, answer the following questions: 1. Why is it important to know your family medical history? It is important to know your family medical history in order to know the diseases and health concerns you are most at risk for. Once you know what you are more at risk for you can take the proper preventative measures to help reduce your risk. Preventative measures when caught early can improve your survival rate. 2. How might being aware of your medical family history help you? Being aware of my family medical history can help me to take the proper preventative measures that are right for my individual health needs. Knowing that diabetes runs in my family I can look at what preventative steps I can start to take now. When you are aware that certain diseases or conditions run in your family you can prepare yourself by taking early preventative measures to reduce your risk of being diagnosed with that disease; thus improving your survival rate if you were to be diagnosed with it.
