To isolate gene of interest in a test tube ( in vitro ) 2.) To make many copies of the gene ( in vitro or in vivo ) 3.) To determine the nucleotide sequence of that gene 4.) To find mutations in that gene in a population 5.) To produce protein from that gene, so that one can understand that proteins function 6.) To control the timing and expression of that protein in an organism. and many, many other uses. Once a gene is cloned it can be manipulated and studied. How is Molecular Cloning Done? Plasmid ex.
