Marcus Gowie 9/30/2010 Soul by Soul: Life inside the Antebellum Slave Market When dealing with books that have to do with history, readers would like to have one that is interesting and also educational. There are many of them that have one, but don’t have the other. Soul by Soul: Life inside the Antebellum Slave Market creates great accounts of what was going on between slaves, slave owners and slave traders during the time of slavery. The book gives extremely useful information on what each party goes through when dealing with slave trade. It gives actual account of many of the slaves that went through the slave trade or had a family member taken away due to the slave trade. The book shows how the slaves felt about the south and being taken away from their families. It also shows how cruel slave traders were because they only saw slaves as a dollar sign and not as human beings. Finally the book gives readers incite to the largest slave market during this time, which was in New Orleans. One of the many groups that had it rough throughout the entire book was the slaves. Soul by Soul shows the amount of stress and strain that was placed on the slaves during the slave trade period. Many of them lost family members and was shipped all across the nation and didn’t even get chance to ever speak to their families ever again.
