ACCOUNTABILITY AND ETHICS2Literature Review: Ethics and AccountabilityIntroductionThe corporate world, governments and businesses face the dilemma of balancing the ethicaldilemmas and accountability in the face of the business opportunities at their disposal. Inessence, the firm does not operate in a vacuum but rather both local and international communityexpect the business to behave in the norms that they do perceive to be right and just (Bouten &Hoozée, 2013). In that line, this literature review will discuss the business ethics and put moreemphasis on the environmental aspect of the business ethics.Business EthicsThe business ethics concept began earlier in the 1960s when the society become moreconsumer based. In that account, organization across the world become more aware of thesociety that was more interested in the social causes, corporate governance and the environment(Bowie, 2017). in that essence, the business across the globe started to develop practices thatwere morally right and just to the society.In the past few decades, the ethic concept has evolved continuously and now the corporateare using the ethics to gain competitive advantage against their rivalry (Trevino& Nelson, 2016).Consequently, enterprise have developed the business codes that guides the social norms of thebusiness. When the company consumers perceive the company with highest degree of integrityand honesty the firm become more competitive.In that regards, there are three factors thatdetermines the ethical standards of each organization: knowledge, individual values and socialnorms.

Without the substantial knowledge andunderstanding an individual cannot develop know and follow the right guidelines that thecompany requires the firm to follow through. In that account, an individual must be aware of theexisting policies of the company. Individual value such as honesty, integrity determines theintegrity values to determine the ethic codes of an organization as a whole. Moreover, the societyexpectations on the corporation is important in the determination and setting policies of thecompany.In that view, society expects that corporations to maintain the norms that thesafeguards the environment. consumers are purchasing the commodities and services that areenvironmental friendly.Environmental accountingThe consumers are more aware of the products that pollutes the environment than initialyears. in that account, the consumers prefer environmental friendly products and services(Schaltegger & Burritt, 2017).
