PSY/201 Web Address (URL): meditations.htm/ tm Summary of resource: The purpose of breathing meditation is to ease and clear the mind. To practice breathing meditation one must find a peaceful location free from distractions. The mind must be focused inhaling and exhaling through the nostrils. At first the mind will feel busy as you become aware of how much activity in actually taking place. Keeping the back and neck straight is important for keeping the mind from becoming sluggish or sleepy. Ten to fifteen minutes of breathing meditation will help reduce stress, improve mood, and refocus the mind to work more efficiently. If the mind begins to wander individuals should focus on breathing, and feel the oxygen entering and leaving the body. Chakras meditation focuses on seven different areas of the body. The Root Chakra is located directly at the base of the spine. This area is related to how our bodies connect to the material world. The Naval Chakra is found in the lower abdomen, and is tied to physical feelings of love, passion and sexuality. The Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the navel and below the chest.
