The first major problem I was noticed was the lack of efficiency facing the company. Hand written reports leave a great deal of room for effort. Paying seasonal overtime the added up to 250,000 dollars a year was a complete waste of money. An enterprise system would completely change the way Dorfman Pacific does business. All departments would be able to communicate and share information in real time. The most important aspect of installing an enterprise system would be utilizing an extranet. This would allow Dorfman Pacific to do business at a much faster pace, and with fewer employees. Customers such as Wal-Mart and JC Penny likely place very large orders that need to be shipped all over the country. They would be able to access the extranet view available stock and place orders without direct contact with a Dorfman Pacific employee. Enterprise system can be very costly to install and adapt to, but saving 250,000 a year on labor alone would make the system pay for itself in a very short amount of time. Then figure in the money saved on office supplies and time
