P a g e | 12 The circuit is separate into three parts according to their functionality. The first part is Decode and Control Circuit, shown in Fig. This circuit decodes the signal send by the microcontroller. The PIC Address port tells the circuit which module to operate and the PIC Data tells the circuit what to operate. A 74154 1-of-16 decoder is used to decode the Address. The input is binary, so 0000 refers to Module01, 0001 refers to Module 02 and so on. There are sixteen output pins on the decoder, each is connected to the Enable pine of a 74HC75 2 bit Level-triggered D latch. When a module is chosen to be the operating module, the according enable of the latch is set to high and hence the Q1, Q2 will change with D1,D2 while other latch outputs stay the same. The second part is Driver Circuit. This circuit takes the output from the control circuit and Turn the signals into large current to drive the solenoid. This circuit is shown in Fig. The signals first past through a 74VHC240 Buffer to achieve a current of 25mA.
