Unformatted text preview: Sample Advocacy Speech Thank you for the opportunity to speak today. My name is insert speakers name and I am a resident of Chesterfield County and the insert your relationship to your family member . Before he received the waiver specify particular challenges your family experienced. After receiving the waiver again specify how things have improved for him, you, your family, piece of mind, etc. It is a travesty to me that there are over 5000 people in Virginia who face similar challenges to those my family experienced before receiving the Waiver. I encourage you all to advocate for increased funding for community based services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by fully funding those Waivers. I encourage you to support the legislation recently passed both the House and the Senate that will eliminate the MR and DD Waiting lists over the next ten years. Thank you to Delegate Cox and Senator Barker for patroning those Bills. Do not let these tough economic times put the brakes on this new legislation! Lastly, I want to thank you for making this dream a reality for my family and giving my child the resources necessary to live his best life. Please do not give up on the others who are still waiting. Thank you for your time.
