MAT-150Whole-Number Addition Property: Commutative PropertyOverview: During this lesson students will learn the basic skills on commutative property and how to use it while solving a addition problem. Students will be asked to roll dice and write down in their math journal the two numbers that are shown forming a addition equation. EX: 2 + 3 = 5. Once they have about 5 addition equations, students will than be asked to go back and flip the numbers into a different order and solve. EX: 3 + 2 = 5.Objectives: Learn and use the commutative property to solve addition problems while recognizing that no matter the order the number are placed, the sum will be the same. Materials: The materials needed will be the student’s math journal, dice, and a pencil.Activity: 10 minutes – Demonstrating/ explaining
