MAT-150Equivalent Fraction’sOverview: In this lesson students will gain the knowledge of equivalent fractions, be able to define what a denominator and numerator are, and be able to explain why the fraction a/b is equal to c/d. Students will be paired with another peer and given pattern blocks and a task card that directs them to find a equivalent fraction to the fraction that is shown on the card. In their math journal students will write down and define the important vocabulary and explain what equivalent fractions are. Share notes with partner. Objectives: Students will be able to understand what equivalent fractions are and how to generate them.Materials: Math journal, task cards, pattern blocks and a pencil.Activity: 45 minutesBegin the lesson with writing “Equivalent” on the board.Introduce the word and define the new vocabulary word to the students. Equivalent means equal to or has the same value.
