HIS-114 The Evolution of Democracy in the Early Republic Over the years the American Republic has seen many leaders, many views, and many changes. Different presidents and their different beliefs would shape how the US government was run. They each had a very distinguish idea of what makes a good and strong government and how the nation should function. Between the presidencies of Jefferson to Jackson, each political stance and leadership held some part of the evolution of Americas Republic. From the time of President Jefferson to President Jackson many political rulings changed and shaped the early rise of Americas Republic. When Jefferson won the presidency in 1800, it marked a reversal in American politics. He beat federalist John Adams, causing a big loss for the federalist party. The winning of presidency gave Jefferson the hope that he can restore the true meaning of revolution back to the country. Jefferson believed in a small government and military and he believed that he could advocate for a more farmers republic that was led by agrarian class.
