A Comeback for the UAW 2 A Comeback for the UAW The United Auto Workers fight Detroit’s automakers for better pay and job security. Keeping companies profitable is just as important to the union as it is to management. That’s the only way they are going to protect the pensions, the retiree health care, all the things they want for their members, with good wages. Union membership might become more attractive to workers in the future if they negotiate for other rewards, such as profit-sharing and health care. Companies prefer bonuses to raises because they come only if a company makes money or meets goals. UAW workers at all three companies should get bonus checks to motivate their workers. I believe that the challenges of human resource management has to face is that they have to be part of the top management team that's setting the strategy for the company
