Hello professor and class, This great nation of awesome power and abundant resources has lost the battle against homelessness. The casualties can be seen on the street corners of every city in American holding an "I will work for food" sign. Homeless shelters and rescue missions are at full capacity. Anyone who has studied this issue understands that homelessness is a complex problem. Communities continue to struggle with this socio-economic problem while attempting to understand its causes and implement solutions. The public and private sectors of this country are making a difference in the lives of the homeless by addressing the issues of housing, poverty and education. Unformatted text preview: homeless in the US. Of these individuals 23% are chronically homeless. Chronically homeless is defined as an individual who has been continually homeless for over one year. The chronically homeless may feel as if they are stuck and destined to remain homeless for the remainder of their lives thus behavior and personal perception changes are a necessity to help them become a functioning member of society. Our government needs to help out more. We have children that go to bed hungry, and more and more people that go homeless. We spend billions of dollars helping out other countries which is great, but we need to take care of our own first....
