Xcel Energy Pays For Employees Who Excel Merit pay is a compensation program whereby base pay increases are determined by individual performance. Employers encourage the recognition of excellent performance and achievement of employee’s through the use of merit pay and other rewards. Rewarding your employees doesn’t have to be costly. I believe that the merit pay is better than paying for suggestions. It would motivate the employee’s to be more productive. Merit pay would be good for example, when a naturally energetic employee works for a few days beside a lazy one, the logic of the situation is unanswerable. But answer the question as to “why should I work hard when that lazy fellow gets the same pay that I do and does only half as much work? There is no pay system on earth that will satisfy all employees. But they can have a pay system
