Ethical Dilemma at Work 2 An Ethical Dilemma at Work Journal Entry #1 4/3/2011, I though this country was past the stages of sexism and prejudice in the work place, but how wrong I was in believing that! As the spouse of a relatively successful woman in the Business field, I see just how sexist and prejudice the Big Business and corporations can still be against women in the work place. My wife has comes home many days with some sort of argument about how unfair things are at work and how the people she works with have no morals or values. I’m going to tell you about a specific situation that my wife faced at work a few months ago while visiting with a company she thought about merging her own business with. The morals and values of the executives she met created daily ethical dilemmas for her and the social pressure of “fitting in” only seemed to amplify the situations. My wife has been a manager since June of 2007 of a very popular insurance company located in Los Angeles, California. She manages the corporate office which has about 40 to 50 employees’ total. Due to her strides up the corporate ladder, she is highly respected in the insurance industry; however she is a part of a very small percentage of female managers in the industry. With that being said, she believes in hiring women to balance out the overwhelming number of men in the industry. The women that are there are all a bit on the young and attractive side.
