Module One Writing Assignment The debate over the sustainability of resources is unending. There are concerns that future generations will not have the same resources available to them as did past generations. Today’s consumption of resources will determine what endowment future generations our own descendants will receive, and how well they will live. The Earth's population is over six billion people and will probably double in this century. For every 100 lb. of product we manufacture in the U.S., we create at least 3,200 lb. of waste. In a decade, we transform 500 trillion lb. of molecules into nonproductive solids, liquids and gases. At the turn of the last century the sparsely populated earth possessed seemingly limitless quantities of natural resources, and so humans set out to exploit those resources as fast as possible.
