HW1 Image Enhancement and Manipulation Prob. 1 (25 points) Quantization. a) A typical digital image has pixel values between 0 and 255 represented in 8-bit numbers. Now, suppose you are allowed to have only 5 bits to represent each pixel value, which can only represent 32 different codes, but the pixel value should still be between 0 and 255 for display. The codes should be assigned to represent values in order to minimize the mean square error when the original pixel values are uniformly distributed between 0 and 255. The following is an example original 2x2 image represented in 8-bit pixels. With the new 5-bit codes, what are the values of the resulting image? What are the pixel values of the resulting images if you only have 3-bit codes? 255 87 150 30 b) Write a Matlab program to represent the pixel values of 1_3.asc in 6 bits and 3 bits. Show the resultant images in your report. HINT: Let s = (2^n_initial)/(2^n_reduced), QuantizedImage=floor(x/s)*s + s/2 Prob. 2 (25 points) Histogram and cumulative distribution function of histogram. For this problem, use the Lenna image,
