Parenthood as an Option One of most important decisions in life Lots of ways: own child, own child through IVF                     and  other methods, adoption, foster parent  Not being a parent is a valid option as well. Research Having a baby does not help a troubled marriage Couples who had most strain following birth had most marital  problems before pregnancy Advantages of remaining childless more time for self and companion more financial resources  marriages less stressful and most happy more spontaneity  more devotion to career

Becoming Pregnant Conception most likely occurs  during a  6 day period   ending on day of ovulation Enhancing the possibility intercourse just prior to or at  ovulation predicting ovulation Mucus  Fertile begins when yellow or  white sticky discharge begins  through “ovulatory” mucus  which is clear, stringy and  stretchy until cloudy discharge resumes

Becoming Pregnant Predicting ovulation Calendar or rhythm method Count days in cycle High risk for pregnancy days, subtract 19 from the  number of days of shortest cycle for start Subtract 11 from number of days of longest cycle for  end of high risk period  BBT methods  –Basal Body Temperature method based  on body temperature changes before and after ovulation  ovulation-predictor urine tests  measure  rise in LH in urine  before ovulation and can tell best time for conception 60% of couples become pregnant within first 3 months of  trying Unfortunately, not everyone becomes pregnant when they  want to - they may be  infertile
