2 Comparison of Three Sculptures: David’s The creation of art is influenced heavily on the surrounding culture and society. The three Sculptures of David provide a grand example of how time period and culture represent a particular object or person. Through the study of various David sculptures by Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini, its evident how each artist was influenced by trends and styles of their particular era. The sculptures of David by Michelangelo and Donatello were both inspired by the Renaissance style of sculpture (Sayre, pg 49/452, 2009). Both sculptures display David in the contrapposto position. The body of David is sculpted nude, relaxed, and with his back curved naturally (Sayre, pg 49/452, 2009). This style of sculpture was popular in this period because it was a demonstration of the cultures view of the human form. Although similar, there are variations in the two sculptures.
