Most people who do not specialize in the education field are not able to see the difference between mentoring programs and induction programs. It will be more effective to see the difference between the two types of programs and the effectiveness that each program has on beginning educators if you are a professional or student in the education field. However, even while being a student of this subject, people ponder the benefits of the two programs and how they can improve or implement them in their own classroom. There are many differences between the two programs but they share a common goal of better serving the educators and ultimately the students involved. A mentoring program is a program made for a teacher who is just starting their first year of instruction on their own. A beginning educator will be paired with a more experience educator to guide them for their first year of teaching. The purpose of having a mentor program is to help first year teachers develop their skills in the specific areas they need to be improved in. Some people feel that there is not a difference between mentoring programs and induction programs, however, while the goal may be the same the structure and execution of the program are very contrasting. Induction programs are programs that are made to help new and beginning teachers become knowledgeable and resourceful professionals in their classroom. One other purpose of the induction programs is that it will help us develop a better understanding of our school, cultures, and our community. Induction programs are different from mentoring programs because they are here to help beginning teachers stay in the field. Researchers found that if a beginning instructor is involved in an induction program have a higher tendency to not leave after three years in their profession.
