I have deeply a planted desire to help people who are in need and, as a result, I have chosen to become an educator. I have previously been employed by the Rockford Public School District 205 as a paraprofessional. My duties had included not only helping the teacher but assisting students with special needs. This occupational opportunity was extremely rewarding for me and is one of several reasons I became interested in teaching special needs children. Furthermore, my younger brother is developmentally disabled and watching the progression from an infant with a handicap to a higher functioning toddler is astoundingly interesting to me. It makes me very happy to see people overcome their own obstacles and hardships in life in order to achieve their goals, no matter how small they are. Everyone has goals, whether they are short-term or long-term lifetime goals. As with everyone else, I have both short and long term goals. In the next five years I would like to finish not only my Associates Degree but a Bachelors Degree focusing in Special Education as well from a highly ranked University. Furthermore, I would also like to employ the skills I develop from such a degree by becoming a special education teacher, particularly in a self contained classroom. These are, however, only my short- term goals. In addition to these goals, I have some goals that I would like to accomplish within the next ten years as well. My ultimate career goal in my life would be to teach cooking skills and nutrition to the adults with mental disabilities so that they might be able to function more independently. In order to do so, within the next ten years I plan to attend a culinary intuition and become a certified chef. Additionally, I plan to return to graduate school to receive a Masters of Science in Nutrition. The goals that I have, both short and long-term, require an extraordinary amount of planning, preparation, and education. In order to complete my Associates Degree, I need to continue to study hard for my classes so that I may be able to maintain my B+ grade point average. When I get closer to the completion of my Associates, I will begin to apply to the list of colleges and universities where I desire to attend. Upon my acceptance to universities, I will make my decision based on what is most academically beneficial, financially feasible, and close in proximity to my family and fiancé. Once I have enrolled in a university I will continue to strive to obtain the best grades possible. As with my bachelors, the same

steps hold true with enrolling into culinary and graduate schools. With the current economic and political situation that our nation is going through, the biggest obstacle for accomplishing this goal is finding a source of funding for my education. Once I have accomplisher these goals, I may then proceed to becoming a teacher. In order for this to happen, there are several certification exams that are required to
