Other businesses were beginning to boom in the 19 th century. The railroad system paved the way for many. One man that was a part of the big business in the 19 th century was known as John D. Rockefeller. John Davison Rockefeller was born in 1839 in Richford, New York. His first job was working as an assistant bookkeeper in 1855. Just four years later, in 1859, oil was discovered in Titusville, Pennsylvania and drew in the attention of John D. Rockefeller. He tried but was turned down by the wildcatters. Rockefeller was 26 when he started booming in the oil business. In 1863 he began with his first move with Maurice B. Clark and others by creating a refining business. Rockefellers refining business was in Cleveland. Rail service, access to Great Lakes along with those who were immigrants needing work cause the business to grow and boom. “In 1870, Rockefeller teamed with his brother William, Henry M. Flagler, and Samuel Andrews (inventor of an inexpensive means of refining crude oil) to establish the Standard Oil Company” (United States History, n.d.).Standard Oil quickly managed to combine the refineries in
