Vocabulary List Diastole (relaxation) – blood fill the ventricle Systole – (ventricular contraction) –expels blood from the ventricle and into circulation Preload – the volume and associated pressure generate in the ventricle at the end of diastole (relation) After load – the resistance or impedance to ejection from the left ventricle Stroke Volume – the volume of beat ejected per beat during systole Myocardial contractility – is the change in developed tension at a given resting fiber length. Mean arterial pressure – the average pressure in the arteries throughout the cardiac cycle Orthostatic hypotension – decrease in systole and diastolic blood pressure upon standing False aneurysm – an extravascular out patching, hematoma, that communicates with the intravascular space. Intermittent claudication – gradually increasing obstruction to arterial blood flow to the legs caused by atherosclerosis in the iliofemoral vessels results in pain with ambulation (walking)
