Studying the Chapter--Introduction In the textbook, read Chapter One. In Chapter Two, read pages 22-30. In Chapter 10, read pages 224-229. In the back of the textbook (or on-line), read the Declaration of Independence. Notice the Learning Objectives on the first page of each Chapter. They’ll help you as you read and study the material. Also, notice the quotes in each chapter. Some of them are very interesting. “Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us….”, Franklin Delano Roosevelt **What do you think Roosevelt meant when he said this? Do you believe this is true? If this is true, what about all of those people who don’t vote? In Chapter One, we find quite a few terms and definitions related to politics and government. Each subject has its own “words”. Sometimes, that’s the most difficult thing about taking a course in a new area—getting used to the terms. Study the terms in this chapter carefully. One common mistake students make is the use of the “L” words.
