Writing Assignment 4 03/27/11 1) The world’s markets have been in turmoil the past few years mainly because of economic troubles both in the U.S. and other foreign markets, such as the trouble that the Euro has seen because of economic problems in Greece and other countries. This can affect purchasing power parity (PPP) because if a country or multiple countries currencies have an effect due to economic troubles, this will change the exchange rates between countries and therefore will make the PPP exchange rate different because the value of one or both currencies will change and can hurt the possibility of future recovery. 2) The Bretton Woods Agreement was created when 44 governments of allied countries came together in New Hampshire and planned for a postwar international monetary agreement. The agreement mainly did three important things, two of which created important international structures that would be extremely important and helpful in the future. It created a fixed exchange rate between the parties; created the International Monetary Fund which was a pool of gold and currencies available for stabilizing a member countries currency; the creation of the World Bank for long-term developing projects in the future. 3)
