The Merchants of Cool Paper The Merchants of Cool is a video made by the Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) regarding how teens and young adults have become one of the biggest market groups for advertisers to try to cater to and find the styles and things that will attract the huge amount of business that they can provide. I thought that the Merchants of Cool videos were very informative and interesting overall about just how powerful and impressionable teens and young adults can be to advertisers and vice versa. One of the areas I found particularly interesting was when they showed the people that were hunting for cool, looking for the trend setters and then use it to sell to advertisers and companies so that they can learn the “cool” aspects and unusual trends that teens and young adults are now getting into or have had. Our text had discussed in earlier chapters about trend setting and styles of different groups and just how much they can affect the products we see and how they are advertised. I think that these types of “hunters” in the advertising industry are making a solid impact on companies and the approaches and styles that they will take to accomplish their goals of increasing
