2 AT&T is a large company with a broad market share in the communications industry. They were one of the leaders of the communications industry from its inception, and have now become a major player in the cellular communications industry as well. This paper will show AT&T’s background and competitive advantage in the industry along with the other major players. In January of 1984, the Bell System was broken up by an anti-trust lawsuit. This lawsuit broke the Bell System up into seven Regional Bell Operating Companies and the American Telephone & Telegraph Corporation (AT&T). In 2000, the company split into three new companies: AT&T Wireless, AT&T Broadband, and AT&T. AT&T wireless was one of the largest cellular phone companies from the start, carrying a popular market brand name to help with consumer decisions and also
