What is your evaluation of Michael Dell’s performance in his roles as Dell’s CEO and Chairman? How well has he performed the five tasks of crafting and executing strategy that were discussed in Chapter 2? Michael Dell is widely regarded as one of the legendary hero in the PC industry, known as “the quintessential American entrepreneurs” and “the most innovative guy for marketing computers.” He also was considered a very accessible CEO and a role of young executives. Michael Dell was the founder and supervisor of the company vision and values. With the help of Walker, they created an environment which every employee could integrate into. He is a competent CEO. Crafting and executing a company’s strategy has five phases: Phase 1: Developing a strategy vision. Phase 2: Setting objective. Phase 3: Crafting a strategy. Phase 4: Implementing and executing the strategy. Phase 5: Evaluating performance and initiating corrective adjustments. In 1984, Michael dell founded Dell Computer with a simple vision and business concept---that personal computers could be built to order and sold directly to customers. With the development of company, Dell Company’s strategy vision became: “In the markets we serve, by bringing customers the best possible experience to become the world's most successful computer company.” Michael Dell believed his approach has two advantages: (1) bypassing distributors

and retail dealers eliminated the markups of resellers, and (2) building to order greatly reduced the costs and risks associated with carrying large stocks of parts, components, and finished goods. So the objective of Dell Company is: By the most efficient procurement, manufacturing, and distribution capabilities to get a substantial cost and profit margin advantage over rival, then became the global market leader. With phase 1 and phase 2, Michael Dell could craft a strategy as Overall Low- Cost Provider Strategy, and make a strategy plan. Converting strategic plans into actions and results, Michael Dell has ability to directly lead organizational change, motivate people, build and strengthen company competencies and completive capabilities, create and nurture a strategy- supportive work climate, and meet or beat performance targets. That was important. Michael Dell always stayed the course which makes the company success from founding. 2. What are the elements of Dell’s strategy?
