The word conflict has always gotten a bad rap. When most people think about conflict, they think about two people having a heated argument. That being said, Conflict is about way more than two people having a disagreement, rather, conflict is a natural and healthy way of sorting out problems. Conflict isn’t always bad, but not all conflict is good either. Miriam-Webster Dictionary (2020) describes conflict as a “competitive or opposing action of incompatibles : antagonistic state or action (as of divergent ideas, interests, or persons)”. There are different types of conflict, for example, there is positive conflict in where people or teams may disagree on a certain subject or idea, however, the conversation is had via the overlay of mutual respect for differing thoughts and ideas (Robbins & Judge, 2017). In juxtaposition, in negative conflict, we see a lack of trust and mutual respect in the adversary, leading to the implementation of personal defense mechanisms that may further enlarge the already existing rift. I currently work for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as a Purchasing Agent IV, a role I have held since early 2018, and I have worked for CDOT for nearly 9 years total. Our website is (Links to an external site.) . In mid- 2018, I was still getting my footing as a purchasing agent, when I came across a situation that is known as a Statutory Violation (SV). Per state of Colorado statutes, all purchases with state funds for over $5,000 must have an encumbrance in place for the full value of the goods or services in advance of the agreement to receive those goods
